This is one of those situations where the wants of a wedding and the needs for a wedding ceremony are confused. I would say a bridal portrait is not needed but it is very good to have. The reason I recommend having a bridal portrait as part of your wedding is because it shows the beauty of the bride in a stress free environment prior to the wedding. No worries of weather or stains on the dress affecting that one shot during the wedding photography. The bridal portrait can be that flawless photo prior to the wedding.
